If you’ve been around for a while, you know that the digital world has drastically changed, it’s growing exponentially and will continue to grow. There’s no doubt that we are in the age of social media, content creation and the likes. There are so many arguments out there about blogging being dead and many people pushing podcasts and video as a result.
While I may agree to an extend, I don’t believe blogging is dead. I believe as a content creator you have to fully understand who your target audience, where they hang out and what you need to do to reach them.
The better question to ask yourself is – what would my ideal client, customer, reader etc. go to find the type of content I create? Would they go to youtube and search for a video? Would search for a podcast in your niche? Would they hit up Pinterest to find the latest blog post about how to recreate a recipe? Wherever you think your target audience is, spends a good amount of their time on – is where you need to be.
Now I am a firm believer that blogging is an outlet to grow your brand. There’s a saying that says that people don’t buy things, people buy people. If you’re trying to create the like-know-trust factor with your new audience, I truly believe that blogging is one of the many ways you can share your heart with your audience in an authentic yet real way that will allow them to connect with you.
So what is the number one reason why you should start blogging even in the age of video content and podcasting?
Because you build trust.
Once your ideal client/customer/reader can trust you, you will have their attention forever.
So maybe your just starting out – my advice? Blog about your journey. Blog about your experience. Blog about your knowledge. A lot of new content creators rely on their social media accounts to create content – what they don’t realize is that they do not own their social media channels. Have you ever thought about what would happen if Instagram dissapeared one day? What if another social media came on and took over the way facebook did when myspace was around? How would you stay connected with your followers? You probably wouldn’t be connected with them if you don’t have another outlet like your personal blog or email list to stay in touch with your audience.
One way you can start blogging and building trust with your audience is by starting a blog. You can do by purchasing your domain name (www.yourdomainname.com) and creating a blog. If you want to go the DIY route, I always recommend everyone I know do go through Bluehost because they are my trusted hosting company. If you’re looking for a professional web designer, feel free to schedule a free consultation with Joie Design Studio.
Don’t put all your eggs in one basket my solely relying on social media to build and nurture your audience.
